“We are still working on a number of tactical elements during training sessions. Among other things, we have been concentrating on shooting; I want to give my players a chance to improve at finishing offensive attacks. I’m hoping that from now on, we perform better than in the past two games,” explained Dariusz Zuraw ahead of the league match against Rakow Czestochowa.
Numerous fans and experts who watched Lech’s clash with Arka Gdynia pointed out that the team from Poznan was oddly reluctant to build their offensive attempts from the defense. The team’s coach emphasized that the tactics change depending on the rival. “We are looking for different solutions, analyzing our opponent’s defensive line. Even though we had fewer passes [against Arka] than usual, doesn’t mean we will no longer play the way we did. Obviously, I don’t want my players to kick the ball forward without an aim; whatever tactics we employ, we need to make sure they’re effective,” highlighted Zuraw.
In the next league match, the team from Poznan is going to face Rakow Czestochowa in Belchatow. This particular opponent uses a formation with three defenders only which, of course, requires an appropriate tactical plan. “I need to readjust my team’s formation for this match. Rakow has been led by one coach for a relatively long time, hence you can start to see his vision’s imprint on the team. Rakow’s players have a good physique, they cause problems during set pieces, and they are very committed,” explained Lech’s coach.
“I’m expecting an interesting match during which we will have a bit more free space than we did in Gdynia. This will allow us to show our offensive skills, but at the same time, we have to be very careful in the defense. Rakow is capable of building a fast offensive attack with short passes originating from the goalkeeper whilst simultaneously, the team’s two strong forwards give them an advantage during set pieces,” emphasized the 46-year-old.
When talking about Lech’s rival, Zuraw didn’t hide the fact that this particular opponent requires a different preparation plan. “We analyzed the behavior of Rakow’s players. At the same time, we also looked at various other teams that play with three defenders only. We concentrated on their performances against squads that play similarly to us in an attempt to extract as much useful information as possible. Now it’s time to share our observations with the players and then we will see how they execute the plan on the pitch,” summarized the coach.
