For the closing half-an-hour of the recent clash between Wisla and Lech, Tomasz Kedziora defended Lech's goal while wearing a captain's band on his arm. “I feel really honoured,” said the young defender.
The 22 year-old received the captain’s band when Pawlowski was taken off the pitch. The winger is Lech’s 2nd captain and due to Tralka’s absence, Pawlowski was the leader on the pitch. However, when the Polish footballer was substituted, Kedziora received the captain’s band for the second time in his career at Lech. The first time Kedziora took over the role of the team’s leader was in the match against Arka Gdynia two weeks ago.
"I feel really honoured and proud. The team has trusted me and thanks to them I could captain the squad, even if only for 30 minutes,” said the right back. “Nevertheless, when you’re on the pitch, it doesn’t matter who’s the captain. I always play the same way, fully committed and giving my best. The band itself doesn’t influence my engagement,” explained the young defender.
Being a captain is not something that Kedziora is unfamiliar with. As a member of the U-21 Polish squad, he has been captaining the side for some time now. In June 2017 Kedziora and his teammates from the Polish National Team are going to participate in U-21 European Championships in Poland. Therefore, Kedziora is well-known for his leadership skills. “I always give advice to my colleagues during the matches. I know the importance of communicating and supporting one another, thus I make sure that we talk on the pitch and cooperate with each other,” said Kedziora.
Nonetheless, the young defender is not going to recall the match with Wisla Cracow with a smile on his face, because his team conceded an equalizer in the injury time. “When you’re leading one-nil in the 90th minute, you have to make sure you do not concede a goal. We made a couple of errors and it cost us two important points. If we hadn’t wasted a few good goal-scoring opportunities, we would be winning two-nil in the injury time and it’d be impossible for Wisla to catch up,” explained the right back.
