For the first time in his career, Michał Gurgul was a part of the senior team starting line-up in a PKO BP Ekstraklasa match. Lech’s homegrown player spent over 60 minutes on the left defence in the clash with Górnik Zabrze (0:1).
It was the 17-year-old’s second appearance for the Polish Champions. Gurgul made his official debut for the senior team in the 24th round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa against Past Gliwice (1:1) when he replaced Lubomir Satka in the 61st minute. This past weekend, Lech’s homegrown player was a part of the starting line-up for the first time in his career.
“The atmosphere was amazing. My colleagues were very supportive, as they are during any match or training session. I always feel the support. Of course, it’s a pity we lost against Górnik. I think that we could have prevented the goal by improving our organization in the defence. And more importantly, we could have been more effective in the offence. We will surely analyse both of these elements soon,” explained Michał Gurgul.
The 17-year-old played on the left defence in the clash with Górnik. Despite being a centre-back, the youngster trained on the left flank ahead of his debut. The left wing isn’t unfamiliar for the homegrown player as he used to play on this position in the past. Gurgul spent 60 minutes on the pitch on Sunday before being replaced by Pedro Rebocho.
“I felt I did well in the defence, but as I was being replaced, I felt unsatisfied with my performance in the offence. I could have given more in the attack. However, as I said, we will analyse the match and discuss where I could have made a braver attempt in the offence, and when it was the right call to stay behind,” emphasized Lech’s defender.
