In the 2nd round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, Lech beat Górnik Zabrze 3:1 in an away game. Jakub Kamiński, Mikael Ishak and Michał Skóraś scored goals for the team from Poznań.
On Friday, Lech played their first away match of the season. Following an unsatisfactory start of the campaign – i.e. the goalless draw against the Ekstraklasa newcomers Radomiak Radom – the team from Poznań travelled to Zabrze where they faced Górnik. Interestingly, it was the 100th time that the two teams faced each other – the aggregate score was in Lech’s favour as the team from Poznań won 42 times, drew in 29 games, and lost 28 times.
At first, the hosts dominated and quickly converted their efforts into a goal. In the 8th minute, Górnik was awarded a penalty kick following Lubomir Šatka’s handball. Jesus Jimenez converted the perfect opportunity into an opening goal. However, Lech’s didn’t give up and before referee Marciniak announced halftime, Jakub Kamiński converted Joel Pereira’s perfect cross into an equalizer.
Lech took control of the match in the second half and within a few minutes, the guests managed to score the second goal. This time, Jesper Karlström, Joao Amaral and Mikael Ishak played the main roles in Lech’s offensive attempt. In the 69th minute, Michał Skóraś set the final score to 3:1 with a shot on target which first bounced off Rafał Janicki’s feet and then hit the back of the net.
Despite creating a few more goal-scoring opportunities, Lech didn’t manage to score again as Filip Marchwiński’s and Jan Sýkora’s attempts were successfully stopped by Górnik’s keeper. On Friday (August 6th), Lech is going to play in front of their fans as they face Cracovia at 8:30 pm local time.
