In the 10th round of PKO Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan beat Gornik Zabrze 3:1 in an away clash. Jozwiak, Puchacz, and Gytkjaer secured three points for the guests.
Lech’s team was determined to put an end to an unfortunate run of 3 league games without a win. Their enthusiasm and grit were visible from the opening minutes and yet it was Gornik that had more goal-scoring opportunities. The hosts were causing problems to Lech’s defensive line - Wisniewski’s free kick flew just slightly above the crossbar whereas Zapolnik mishit the ball and wasted a great chance. Lech responded with a counterattack which Jozwiak finished off with a shot on target; the ball might have not had fallen into the back of the net if it wasn’t for one of Gornik’s defenders who stood on the way; the ball bounced off the player and rolled past the helpless keeper and into the goal.
Lech Poznan was looking for a second goal and causing problems to Gornik’s defensive line. The goalkeeper was forced to intervene once again, however, this time Jozwiak failed to beat the keeper. On the other end of the pitch, one of Gornik’s players was left near Lech’s penalty area with plenty of space which enabled him to send a precise cross into the box where Jimenez was waiting. The latter redirected the ball into the back of the net without any problems. Shortly afterward, Angulo dribbled around Gumny and fired a strong shot at the goal, however, luckily for the team from Poznan, van der Hart stopped the ball in time. Just when it seemed that the first half is going to end in a draw, Lech counterattacked and successfully surprised the hosts. Crnomarkovic recovered the ball and passed it to Muhar who spotted Puchacz and sent him the ball. The youngster raced down the pitch and changed the score to 1:2 with a flat and precise shot.
The second half wasn’t as exhilarating but both sides managed to create plenty of scoring chances. Moder, Gytkjaer, and Amaral all came close to scoring, whereas on the other end of the pitch, Zapolnik had a perfect opportunity to grab an equalizer but his attempt was once again off target. Lech seemed to be in control of the match, occasionally counterattacking. In the injury time, Moder and Jevtic came close to scoring but neither of them was precise enough to succeed. However, in the following offensive attempt, the team from Poznan found the back of the net. Moder’s pass alongside the goal reached Gytkjaer and the Dane tapped the ball into the net. The match ended with a 3:1 win for the team from Poznan and put an end to the unfortunate series of lost league points.
