After a levelled match, Lech Poznań drew 0:0 in an away clash with Piast Gliwice. The single league point and Raków’s and Jagiellonia’s results mean Lech will likely finish 2024 in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa leader’s seat.
Niels Frederiksen’s squad travelled to Gliwice after two league wins in a row - recently the players from Poznań triumphed against Legia Warsaw (5:2) and GKS Katowice (2:0), the latter being their last home game this year. Lech’s schedule until the end of 2024 involved two more away league games – the first was the clash with Piast Gliwice which ended in a goalless draw.
“Piast enclosed our midfield very well, making it hard for us to create anything. It might have looked better in the second half, but we were far off from our standard. The hosts were positioned well tactically, whereas we didn’t perform the way we usually do,” explained Filip Jagiełło.
The point won by Lech in Gliwice, and Raków’s and Jagiellonia’s scores, mean that Lech will most likely finish 2024 in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa leader’s seat. At the moment, the only team capable of causing a threat to Lech is Raków who are three points behind Niels Frederiksen’s squad. However, the club from Poznań has a better goal ratio. In their last league game of the year, Lech will face Górnik Zabrze in Silesia, whereas Raków will play against Motor Lubin at home.
“For now, we aren’t paying attention to the table. The season is long and analyzing the situation in the table doesn’t make sense. We are happy to be the leaders because I believe we deserve it, but there are still many matches to play and what matters is what the situation will look like in May, not now. We are doing everything to keep it this way until the end,” explained Lech’s midfielder.
