"He’s back," said John van den Brom in the post-match press conference, after the clash with Jagiellonia Białystok (3:3). Lech’s coach was referring to Mikael Ishak who found the back of the net in the last three league games. It’s the Swede’s fourth such streak at Lech Poznań.
Ishak is slowly catching up to Christian Gytkjaer – the best foreign goal-scorer in the club’s history. The Dane accumulated 65 goals over the years spent in Poznań, meanwhile, the Swedish striker is just two goals short of that number – most likely, it won’t take Ishak long to surpass his predecessor. However, what matters most is that the captain is in good shape after the health issues he experienced last season and at the beginning of this campaign.
In the last three league matches, Lech’s striker scored 4 goals – one in the clash with Puszcza Niepołomice (4:1), two in the match against ŁKS Łódź (3:1), and another in the Tuesday game with Jagiellonia Białystok (3:3). Mikael Ishak has been waiting a year since the last time that he had such a remarkable goal streak at Lech – in the autumn of 2022, the Swedish captain found the back of the net in four matches in a row – against Widzew (2:0), Villarreal CF (3:4, two goals), Pogoń Szczecin (2:2), and Austria Vienna (4:1). Back then, Ishak scored 5 goals in 4 games. He will have an opportunity to match those statistics on Saturday when Lech is going to face Cracovia.
In total, the striker from Sweden had four goal streaks that lasted three or more matches, two of which date back to his debut season – 2020/2021.
