Following a league loss against Zagłębie Lubin (1:2), Lech is now preparing for the second leg of the clash with FK Bodø/Glimt. However, it’s not the first time this season that the team from Poznań has lost league points ahead of an important international match.
Despite dominating in the second half of the match against Zagłębie Lubin, Lech failed to turn the tables. For the fifth time this season, John van den Brom’s squad lost at Bułgarska Street, but despite the poor result, the players emphasise that they’re fully focused on their next opponent - Bodø/Glimt. “We won’t beat ourselves up. We need to forget about the game as soon as possible and prepare for the Thursday match which is incredibly important,” highlighted Artur Sobiech.
The loss against Zagłębie Lubin might actually be a good sign. In the group stage of the Europa Conference League, Lech won two matches – against Austria Vienna (4:1) and Villarreal (3:0) - both of which followed a poor performance in PKO BP Ekstraklasa. In the case of the first game, Lech drew with Pogoń Szczecin 2:2 a few days earlier, and in the latter situation, they were defeated by Raków Częstochowa 1:2.
“We played at a good pace in the past few matches. We are confident in ourselves, and we will give it all in the clash with Bodø/Glimt,” emphasized Antonio Milić.
On Thursday, Lech will have a chance to make history. John van den Brom’s squad can become the first Polish club in 32 years to advance to the second stage of the European competitions' spring knockout stage. So far this season, Lech has remained unbeaten at home when facing international opponents in the Europa Conference League.
