The upcoming Polish Cup will be special for Jan Bednarek. Last year the footballer sat in the stands and supported his teammates together with Lech’s fans. It’s very likely that this time Bednarek will have a direct influence on the match by defending Lech’s goal.
Last season Bednarek spent on loan in Gornik Leczna. Together with his teammate Sergiusz Prusak, they traveled to Warsaw to watch Lech play from the away fans’ sector. The same situation took place during the Polish Cup final.
“We are Lech’s fans and we knew that if we could, we would travel to watch Lech. We had no training session in the afternoon and, therefore, we decided to take a trip. We wanted to help Lech. It was a great experience and a good lesson,” recalled the defender.
Supporting his club from the stands among other fans gave Bednarek a new perspective on the game. “That day we saw the game from the eyes of the fans. We know that they love the club, fight for it and want everything that’s best for Lech. It’s great to be able to see the game from another perspective, especially when it’s such a valuable point of view,” explained Bednarek.
The defender hasn’t yet been given an opportunity to play at the National Stadium. However, he says that it will make no difference to him. “I am familiar with the venue. I know its atmosphere and how loud it can get. However, that doesn’t make a difference to me. In Poznan we play in front of a large audience occasionally as well. It won’t be any louder than that,” said the footballer.
Bednarek focuses on his own team only. He pays attention to the rival ahead of the Polish Cup final. “I don’t know whether playing at the National Stadium will be stressful for them [Arka]. We concentrate on ourselves only. We know that if we play at a certain level, Arka won’t hurt us,” explained Bednarek. “We are very motivated to win. Twice we failed in the final. I believe that the saying “third time lucky” will be true for us,” said the defender.
