Alex Douglas has joined Lech Poznań. On Tuesday afternoon, the Swedish centre-back signed a 3-year contract, valid until June 30th, 2027. The deal includes an option to extend the agreement for another 12 months.
The 22-year-old has joined the club from Poznań on a permanent transfer from Västerås SK – a top-division Swedish team.
“One of our objectives for this pre-season is to rejuvenate the squad. Hence the transfer of Alex Douglas whom we consider a prospective player with a big potential. We want him to develop at our club and make progress. He is a fast player with great physical conditions; he’s a very good playmaker. Alex fits our philosophy and our goals,” explained Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director.
The Swedish defender arrived in Poland on Sunday evening, and from Monday to Tuesday he underwent medical tests. He was given the green light, hence there were no obstacles to signing a three-year contract with the option of extending the agreement for another 12 months.
Douglas is IF Brommapojkarna’s homegrown player. At the age of 14, he joined Hammarby IF, and in March 2022, he signed a contract with Västerås SK. For the next 2 years, he competed in the Swedish second division and then in 2023, Douglas and his teammates won a promotion to Allsvenskan. In the first half of the current year, the defender made 12 appearances for the top-division newcomers.
“I am good with the ball at my feet. I like tough football. I know Lech has a big stadium and a large fanbase, and its atmosphere can be felt in the city. Now I want to adapt to the team as quickly as possible and help win trophies,” emphasized Lech’s newest signing.
Douglas will play with number 3 on his back. This number has previously belonged to another Douglas – the Scott named Barry who has parted ways with the club this summer.
