On Monday, Dariusz Skrzypczak joined the first team’s coaching staff. The three-times Polish Champion was appointed an assistant coach.
Skrzypczak was born on November 13th, 1967 in Rawicz. At the age of 17, he moved from a local football club to Lech. For the next 10 years, he represented the team from Poznan and won 3 championship titles. Throughout his career at Lech, Skrzypczak played in 296 games which puts him in the 8th position in the ranking of club appearances.
He ended his football career in Switzerland where he also began his adventure with coaching. Skrzypczak has already had the chance to lead various teams as an assistant coach, as well as a head coach. Since 2017, he had been the manager of fourth-division FC Solothurn. In addition, for the past 8 years, he had been cooperating closely with the Swiss Football Association where he gained his Coach Instructor license that enabled him to educate future football managers. Moreover, in 2018 Skrzypczak was accredited with UEFA PRO license.
The former Lech player expressed his happiness to be back at the club that gave him a lot of unforgettable memories. “My roots go back to Lech and I still remember how this club always fought for all possible trophies. I would like to have a positive impact on the coaching staff so that we can continue aiming very high. I am thrilled to be once more a part of Lech,” emphasized Zuraw’s assistant coach.
Piotr Rutkowski, Lech’s vice-chairman, also highlighted that apart from the immense experience on and off the pitch, Skrzypczak’s connection and approach to youth players is a key strength. “We have no doubt that coach Skrzypczak will bring valuable football and coaching experience into our dressing room. He also has one more crucial strength – he is skilled at working with youth footballers who debut at the highest level. In addition, we don’t deny the fact that his history at the club also had an influence on our decision. Skrzypczak was born in the region, he has Lech in his blood and has already achieved a lot at this club,” said Rutkowski.
Meanwhile, Tomasz Rzasa – Lech’s sporting director – emphasizes other important factors behind the decision to appoint Skrzypczak as the assistant coach. “His identity will play a key role in bringing youth footballers into the first team. His experience as a coach and as a player will be equally valuable as his history at the club, which he can share with the youngsters. Back in Switzerland, he built himself a great reputation by leading lectures for young coaches and managed to win a lot of respect within the football industry,” summed up Rzasa.
