Lech Poznań triumphed in a crucial league clash with Cracovia. Niels Frederiksen’s squad won the away game 2:0 thanks to Mikael Ishak's and Patrik Walemark's goals.
In the previous round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, which preceded the international break, Lech unexpectedly lost against Motor Lublin (1:2). Frederiksen used the national team groupings as an opportunity to prepare the squad for a crucial clash with the league’s second-best team – Cracovia. As it turned out on Saturday, Lech managed to bounce back in time and defeated Cracovia 2:0, securing their position as the league leaders.
The first half was chaotic – initially, the team from Poznań was in control of the game, but gradually the hosts started dominating, however, they failed to create clear goal-scoring chances. Neither Bartosz Mrozek nor Henrich Ravas had too much work in the first half, hence at halftime the scoreboard showed a goalless draw. The second half was a different story – Lech struck two fatal blows early in the second part of the match. Firstly, Afonso Sousa served Mikael Ishak with a beautiful cross that the captain converted into a successful header. Then, not long later, the Swedish striker assisted Patrik Walemark who set the final score to 2:0 with a flat, precise shot. Frederiksen’s players stayed in control of the game until the final whistle and secured their 8th clean sheet this season.
