Lech beat Chrobry Glogow 2:0 in the first round of the Polish Cup. Christian Gytkjaer and Mateusz Skrzypczak scored the goals for the team from Poznan.
The first half couldn’t be described as exhilarating. Chrobry’s coach – Ivan Djurdjevic – prepared good tactics for the clash with his former team which meant that Lech struggled to get past the rival’s defensive line. Jozwiak, Moder, and Gytkjaer were active in the offensive, however, their attempts didn’t cause too many problems to Chrobry’s defenders. The first mentioned player came the closest to changing the score in the first half but his goal was disallowed by the referee following a foul in the offence.
The second 45 minutes looked drastically different. Chrobry’s squad was more determined and effective in the offence which opened up space for Lech and made it easier for the team from Poznan to create scoring chances. Makuszewski played a key role in Lech’s attacks, providing frequent final passes to Gumny and Gytkjaer or trying to surprise the goalkeeper by himself. Following a short period of Lech’s domination, the hosts had two good goal-scoring opportunities but Lebedynski – who came the closest to scoring – sent the ball flying above the crossbar.
The match became even more interesting when Amaral appeared on the pitch. First, he sent a perfect pass to Jozwiak but the latter failed to beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation. In the next offensive attempt, Amaral served a perfect ball to Gytkjaer and this time his teammate successfully placed the ball in the back of the net. The team from Poznan went with the flow and within minutes they were up by two goals. This time Puchacz crossed the ball into the box and Skrzypczak redirected it into the net with a header. For the latter youngster, it was the first goal scored for the senior team. Lech had a great opportunity to set the final score to 3:0 in the injury time, however, the squad from Poznan overcomplicated things and Amaral’s shot was eventually stopped by Chrobry’s keeper. Therefore, the match ended with a two-goal win for Lech which meant that the team from Poznan advanced to the next round of the Polish Cup.
