Jasmin Burić has officially been given a Polish nationality. On Tuesday, Lech’s goalkeeper received an act acknowledging his new nationality and stating that the player is now a legal owner of a Polish passport.
“It is a great joy and satisfaction to me that Jasmin was given a Polish nationality. The community welcomes a new citizen. The local and regional factor play a key role here. After all, Jasmin is the goalkeeper of Lech Poznan. That makes me even happier to be able to acknowledge Buric as a Pole,” said provincial governor Zbigniew Hoffman.
Buric himself was no less thrilled about his new nationality and the Tuesday events. “I am joyful that I became a Pole today. It is a reason to be proud. I have been here for a while now and Polish nationality was one of my goals. I want to thank the club, the fans, the provincial governor and the President. They all supported me. When the news that I will be given a Polish nationality were revealed, I wasn’t the only one who truly rejoiced,” explained the goalkeeper.
During the ceremony, Jasmin passed on his Europa League shirt from season 2015/16 and his goalkeeper gloves. Both items were given to the provincial governor and will be auctioned for charity. The money gathered will be donated to Hospice Palium. “I am a goalkeeper and gloves are my essentials,” said Jasmin during the ceremony. “The shirt and the gloves are a gift that will help us to develop the hospice,” explained Barbara Grochal, the director of Hospice Palium.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been guarding Lech’s goal for the past 8 years. He joined Lech in January 2009. Throughout all his years at the club, he played in 160 matches and won the Polish Championship twice. In addition, he also helped add two Super Cup trophies to Lech’s historical cabinet. Andrzej Duda, Polish President, signed the official document recognizing Buric’s nationality on March 6th, however, the papers did not reach the goalkeeper himself until now.
