Lech Poznań reached an agreement Artur Sobiech. The 31-year-old has passed medical tests in the Rehasport clinic and signed a two-year contract with the option of extending the deal for another 12 months.
Sobiech is a well-known persona in the Polish top division. Throughout his career, he played in 114 Ekstraklasa games and scored 30 goals for three Polish clubs: Ruch Chorzów, Polonia Warsaw and Lechia Gdańsk.
Lech’s new signing also spent a part of his football career representing German clubs. In summer 2011, he joined Hannover 96 and appeared in a total of 145 games in Bundesliga, scoring 18 times and assisting his teammates twice. In addition, the striker got some experience playing for SV Darmstadt (23 games, 3 goals and 4 assists).
In 2018, the forward returned to Poland and joined Lechia Gdańsk where he played for the next 1.5 years. During his span at the team from the seaside, he collected 53 caps and scored 16 goals. “We are happy that such an experienced striker is going to join our team and reinforce the rivalry for this offensive position. Artur will compete for a spot in the starting line-up with Mikael Ishak and Aron Johannsson, whereas Filip Szymczak will spend the next year on loan in another club in order to get some valuable experience,” explained Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director.
Recently, the 31-year-old also represented a Turkish side called Fatih Karagümrük and went on to win promotion to Süper Lig and appeared in 34 games in the local top division, scoring 9 goals. “I joined a second-division Turkish club and helped them win promotion to the top league. In the following season, we achieved the objective to stay in the Süper Lig. I got a total of 9 goals, hence I believe I played a part in the team’s success,” highlighted Lech’s new striker.
Moreover, Sobiech had the chance to wear the Polish national team shirt a few times. In his 13 caps, he scored two goals for the Poles, against Liechtenstein (2:0) and Latvia (1:0). The striker was also called up for Euro 2012 by coach Smuda but in the end, he didn’t get to perform on the pitch. Sobiech’s last appearances for Poland took place in 2015 when he played against Iceland (4:2) and the Czech Republic (3:1).
