This week, the representatives of Lech Poznań Academy have once again visited RB Leipzig. Even though the core objective of the visit was the match between the junior teams of the two clubs, it turned out that the Lech Poznań employees have gained a lot more from the trip, and not only in the sporting context.
RasenBallsport Leipzig was created back in 2009 and it's been an impressive project from its very beginning. RB Leipzig’s Academy has formed the fundaments of the club since the early days. A big emphasis on training methods was one thing, however, in the meantime, the senior players have been gaining promotion after promotion until in the season 2015/16 they reached Bundesliga. Ever since RB Leipzig players are playing in the top German division, they have been known for the dominant, brave style based on the versatility of their footballers and high pressing. The goal is for RB Leipzig’s homegrown stars to display the same playing style. The Academy has already managed to become one of the top ones in Germany.
Lech’s junior teams have already had the chance to face RB Leipzig players multiple times. Not only have the young Germans been regularly attending Lech Cup, but the two clubs have also organised numerous friendly games. On Wednesday, Bartosz Bochinski took his junior squad to Leipzig for a training match. In the first half, Lech’s team fought ambitiously, but in the second part of the game, they gave in to their better rivals and they eventually lost. However, the Polish coach emphasised that the loss isn’t a reason to worry.
“No one wants to lose, however, in the clash with RB, the final score wasn’t the most important thing. What really matters is to get the most out of such training games and identify areas that need improvement. There is no doubt that these friendly matches are valuable not only in the context of the upcoming games, but also from the long-term perspective,” explained Lech’s coach.
For Bartosz Bochiński it’s been his third visit to Leipzig ever since he took the role back in 2015. The coach highlighted that he is not only impressed by the football performances of RB’s youngsters, but also by the infrastructure, organisation, and momentum gained by the Academy. “You cannot say a single bad word about the conditions in which the Academy is operating. The infrastructure is impressive, working here is a pleasure, and once again our visit is very enjoyable, as well as motivating,” added the coach.
Marcin Wróbel (Lech’s Academy Director), Dariusz Dudka, and Bartłomiej Grzelak (Academy Scouting) have joined Lech’s youngsters on their trip to Leipzig. They were mainly interested in how RB organises the everyday life of their young stars. “Soon we will start building our own accommodation halls for the youth players, therefore we are looking for inspiration and valuable advice. When it comes to organisation, the Germans got it perfectly. We were taken for a tour around the facilities and told that RB is looking for new ways to develop their Academy. They are very open for discussion and aren’t afraid to share their experience,” summarised Dudka.
