Ali Gholizadeh is Lech's latest transfer. The Iranian winger signed a 3-year contract with the Polish club.
Gholizadeh started his career at Saipa F.C. but already in 2018 he moved to Belgium. For the next 5 years, the winger played for RSC Charleroi. He appeared in 143 matches for the black-and-whites, scored 23 goals, and assisted his teammates 26 times. The past few months, Gholizadeh spent on loan at a Turkish club Kasimpasa, however, in the spring round, he had to undergo a knee arthroscopy treatment which meant he couldn’t play for the foreseeable future.
The past year was a successful one for the Iranian player as he got to represent his national team at the World Cup in Qatar. He performed very well for Iran and even got one assist in the three matches, against England. So far, Gholizadeh has 30 caps in his account, 6 goals, and one assist.
“A high-quality player with enormous experience is joining our squad. He has unique skills – he can win direct confrontations in a small space, outplay the defenders, as well as serve his teammates with a great pass. For years, Ali has been achieving excellent numbers – assists and goals alike. We also remember his impressive performances at the World Cup,” emphasised Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director.
“We have said before that we are looking for players who can fill in the gap left by those you have left recently. We are hoping that Ali’s performances will meet the club’s and the fans’ expectations,” added Rząsa.
Interestingly, Gholizadeh has played against Lech in the past. It was back in October 2020, a match in which Lech won 2:1 and advanced to the group phase of the Europa League. In that game, Gholizadeh got an assist for RSC Charleroi.
The Iranian player emphasized that his primary position is the left wing, but he can also play as no. 10.
“I have joined Lech to achieve success with the club and the fans. I am glad to be here,” said Gholizadeh.
“Three years ago, I came across Lech when I faced them in the Europa League qualifiers. My team lost back then, but I remember getting an assist in the match. I know a bit more about Lech and Poznań now, as well as about the coach who manages the team. Before joining the club, I tried gaining some new knowledge about Lech and the city,” explained Gholizadeh.
Ali is still recovering from the knee injury and has just begun rehabilitation under the eye of the club physios and doctors.
