Lech’s Management Board decided that the recent league match against Korona Kielce (0:0) was the last game for coach Nawałka. The 61-year-old was officially dismissed from the position on Sunday. Until the end of the season, Dariusz Żuraw – the man in charge of Lech’s reserves team – will be the temporary first-team coach.
Nawałka took over Lech’s senior team in November last year. Since then, he had the chance to coach the squad in 11 league games out of which he won 5, lost 5 clashes, and drew 1. However, ever since the spring round began, the team from Poznań won only 2 out of their 7 league games. The Management Board, together with Tomasz Rząsa, decided it was time to make crucial changes and dismissed the former national team coach.
“We have a great deal of respect for Nawałka, therefore this particular decision wasn’t an easy one. Both the coach and the Management Board are aware that it’s not only the results that are far from the expectations, but so is the team’s attitude. We would like to thank the coach for his commitment and the hard work he displayed over the past few months. We wish him all the best in his career,” said Karol Klimczak, Lech’s chairman.
Nawałka’s coaching staff will also leave Lech Poznań. Until the end of the season, the first team will be led by Dariusz Żuraw and his assistant Karol Bartkowiak who have been managing the reserves team. During the Championship season in 2015, Żuraw was Skorża’s assistant coach. In addition, last year he also acted as a temporary coach for the first team. During the 2 matches he managed the A team, Lech drew with Jagiellonia Białystok 2:2 and won against Wisła Płock 2:1. The first training session with the new coaching staff is scheduled for Monday.
