The Sunday league match wasn’t only an opportunity to win three points and advance up the league rank, but also to show the support for injured Makuszewski. Thus, Lech’s players dedicated the win against Termalica to their teammate.
A week ago Makuszewski tore the anterior and lateral ligaments. On Thursday the player traveled to Rome where a day later he underwent a surgery. The winger had to watch his teammates compete on Sunday from the hospital bed. However, that didn’t stop the team from showing their support. The players warmed-up in special t-shirts which the coach and the training staff also wore that night.
“Maciej is strong, I’ve known him for years, and I am sure that we will get through it. He’s a tough lad. Meanwhile, as a team will support him as much as we can. He also wants to be there for us. I wish him all the best. We’re waiting anxiously for his return because he’s an immensely important player to us,” explained Rafal Janicki who used to play alongside Makuszewski in Lechia Gdansk. The defender also emphasized that Maciej helped him a lot when he moved to Lech Poznan.
Despite watching the Sunday match on his laptop, it didn’t stop Makuszewski from supporting his teammate. The midfielder recorded a short video mobilizing the squad. After the match, the team sent him a souvenir photo with the commemorative t-shirts. The photo was published on social media with a short “thank you and congratulations” from Makuszewski himself.
Shortly before the final whistle, the squad has a chance to video-chat with their injured teammate. Makuszewski used the opportunity to thank his colleagues. “We’re with Maki. It must be incredibly hard for him especially because of his recent incredible form when playing for Lech, but also for the national team. However, that’s football and it isn’t always fair. We dedicate this win to Makuszewski,” said Mihai Radut who replaced his injured teammate in the Sunday match.
