It’s been 388 minutes since Lech scored in an away match. Last time the players from Poznan got a goal whilst competing away from home was in Zabrze, at the beginning of November. “We need to take bigger risks in the offensive, that will result in numerous scoring chances,” explained Mihai Radut, Lech’s midfielder
9 is the number of shots that Lech fired at their rivals’ goals in the last 4 away matches which ended with a goalless draw, 1 of them against Sandecja, 3 against Zaglebie and Piast, and 2 against Arka. Interestingly, in the 14th league game of the season against Wisla Cracow, the goalkeeper from southern Poland was forced to intervene 9 times. Since that game, Lech faced Wisla Plock, Cracovia, and Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza at home and the shot stats were, respectively, 5, 6, and 10.Therefore, the numbers show that while playing away, the team from Poznan has been shooting at the opponent’s goal on average 3 times less frequently than when playing at home.
Mihai Radut also believes that the number of shots is dependent on the number of scoring chances that the team creates in the away matches. “We struggle to build good goal-scoring opportunities. For instance, in Gdynia, we had only a single chance to score. It’s even more surprising considering the fact that we dominated the second half and were in possession of the ball for a majority of the 45 minutes,” emphasized Radut. “What we’re doing isn’t enough. We need to become a real threat in the opponents' box,” added the 27-year-old.
“I believe that we need to take bigger risks. We know how to operate with the ball, how to attack using the flanks, as well as how to spread our play from wing to wing. It’s all immensely important, but if one day it’s no longer enough, we need to try something different. Maybe we need to pass the ball behind the opponent’s defensive line, or try shooting from outside the box more frequently. Whichever it is, we need an alternative that can be employed whenever a match doesn’t go according to plan,” explained the Romanian midfielder who’s already played in 16 matches this season.
Radut also emphasized that he was worried about his team’s inconsistent performance in the match against Arka. “We lack that 10-15 % that we all need to deliver to win. We attempted to play strong, direct football in the first half, but we were missing something. Our goal was to control the game since the opening minutes, not only after halftime. We are happy with how we reacted to the first part of the match and changed our play, but there are still things that need improvement,” said the Romanian player.
