“Currently, we are focusing on the preparations for the match against Jagiellonia Bialystok. We know that the situation we’re in isn’t great. After a couple of losses, the team isn’t as confident as it was. We will do everything we can to change that,” said Dariusz Zuraw, Lech’s caretaker coach.
After the Sunday clash with Lechia Gdansk, Djurdjevic was dismissed by the club and until a new coach is appointed, Dariusz Zuraw will take over the job of a caretaker. The former Hanover 96 footballer has already coached the senior team as an assistant manager back in season 2014/15 when, under the lead of Skorza, Lech won the Championship.
“Everything happened very fast. After the match against Lechia, I was asked to take over the first team whilst the club negotiates with new potential candidates. Until they find one, together with my assistant coach Bartkowiak we will train the senior team,” explained Dariusz Zuraw.
On Sunday, Lech will have another important game to play. This time, the team from Poznan will face Jagiellonia Bialystok who currently sits second in the league rank. “We have a plan. I know Jagiellonia pretty well because I watch their matches and visit their stadium regularly. I am also familiar with a number of their players who used to compete against my reserves team. I won’t disclose the tactical plans for the Sunday match because I don’t want to make it any easier for Jagiellonia’s coach. I believe he is aware of the changes that are happening in our club, and which I don’t want to discuss any further,” emphasized Lech’s coach.
One of the most frequently mentioned issue during the Tuesday press conference is the atmosphere in the squad. “Usually I am not involved with the first team. I know and read about the issues surrounding the squad and the reasons why we don’t win league games. In the recent matches, the reason for that was the insufficient number of goal-scoring opportunities created by the team. It’s a great squad with talented footballers. However, at some point, something stopped working and we stopped winning. When the team loses, the atmosphere worsens, and when it does, the footballers aren’t as strong mentality as they should be. The game against Rakow impacted the team significantly. It’s not an easy situation for the players; when one thing starts going wrong, other follow,” highlighted the coach.
Therefore, the question is, how is the team going to regain the trust of their supporters after the unfortunate run of poor performances? “When the fans see a team that is highly committed from the first whistle to the 90th minute, put their heart into what they do and, consequently, perform well, we will regain their trust,” explained Zuraw.
