“So far, I have only won one match in Warsaw and it was a Polish Super Cup clash. I am hoping that this statistic will change after the Sunday game,” said Kamil Jozwiak ahead of the league match against Legia Warsaw.
This season hasn’t begun well for the young midfielder. During the pre-season training camp, the footballer suffered an injury which forced him to stay off the pitch for a couple of weeks. Despite the recovery having gone as planned, Jozwiak believes that it had a big influence on his form. “The beginning of the season was tough, I got injured and missed a few games. During the pre-season, I trained on the position just behind a striker and when I returned after my injury, Joao Amaral joined us and I was positioned very differently. Nonetheless, whatever tactics the coach adopts, I ought to adjust,” explained Jozwiak.
During the pre-match press conference, the journalists not only asked about the midfielder’s form but also about the disposition of Legia players. Jozwiak emphasized his respect for the rival despite recent media reports. “I don’t believe that the current Legia team is the weakest we have seen in years. Everyone says they have a crisis but between us and Legia there are only 2 points. Neither we nor Legia performed well recently, therefore we are even more determined to win this match,” highlighted Jozwiak.
Lech has lost points in the last 3 league games. After losing to Wisla Cracow and Zaglebie Lubin, the team from Poznan drew with Piast Gliwice. “I believe that the good results we achieved at the beginning of the season when the schedule was intense gave us a morale boost, but they also led to exhaustion. However, of course, it can't be an excuse for our recent poor performances,” added the player. Jozwiak believes that tiredness wasn’t the only factor that influenced the league scores. “We haven’t played well tactically either. We made a lot of individual mistakes which influenced the final score. There is a lot we need to analyze and we will try and play at our best on Sunday,” explained the midfielder.
Jozwiak doesn’t have the best experience playing in Warsaw. The footballer competed against Legia away from home six times and won only once – in a Super Cup match (4:1).
“I have only won once in Warsaw but hopefully that will change. A lot of people say we struggle playing at that stadium but last time we went there, we played good football and we came close to winning,” emphasized the youngster. When asked about the pressure coming from supporters, the footballer answered, “it’s not something unusual, we are used to it. That pressure might apply more to Legia due to the crisis they have and we will try to take advantage of that.”
The past few weeks Jozwiak spent together with U-21 Polish national team led by Michniewicz. Therefore, it wasn’t until Thursday that the midfielder joined his club squad. The U-21 team drew with Faroe Islands and won against Finland. “I didn’t train with my teammates on Thursday since I got a bit more time to recover, but starting today, I will be training as usual,” added Jozwiak.
