“Everyone thinks that a 3:0 win in the first leg makes the second game a formality, but the truth is, it isn’t like this. We have to be very cautious not to concede a goal. We are going to Szczecin with a clear aim to win,” explained Marcin Robak ahead of the Wednesday clash with Pogon Szczecin.
The forward knows what he’s saying. There are a couple of famous European examples which prove that the second leg matters, no matter what’s the results of the first game. Recently, FC Barcelona and PSG met in the Champions League. The Parisian team won the home game 4:0, but they lost at Camp Nou 1:6 and the Catalan team advanced to the next round.
Lech’s players are determined to avoid a similar situation after winning the first leg against Pogon 3:0. “[Therefore] we need to remain careful and reach our objective to advance to the next stage of the Polish Cup,” emphasized Jan Bednarek. “We will play to our best abilities. We cannot expect Pogon to give up, therefore, we need to play the best way we can. We are traveling to Pogon with an aim to win and nothing else matters,” added the young defender.
Lech’s forward, Marcin Robak, has a similar attitude ahead of the upcoming Polish Cup clash and he recalled the recent Champions League matches. “Football is unpredictable. Even when you have an undisputable advantage, your rival can always catch up with you. Therefore, we want to win. Our goal is to play in the Polish Cup final and we can only do that if we win. We don’t want any delusions,” explained the striker.
Darko Jevtic supported his teammate’s opinion. He, similarly to Robak, doesn’t undermine the importance of the Wednesday match. “I know we have an advantage of 3 goals, but that doesn’t interest us. We want to win and that is why we need to approach the game as though there was no first leg at all. It is an opportunity for us to prove ourselves and show that we deserve to play at the National Stadium in Warsaw,” said the Swiss midfielder.
