In Lech’s recent clash with Korona Kielce (3:2), Patrik Wålemark scored a hat-trick. “Every day you put in the work to deliver such performances,” said the Swede in the post-match interview. In the clash with Korona, the winger fired… just three shots at the goal.
So far in his career, Wålemark scored braces both on the Allsvenskan and Eredivisie pitches. When it comes to interesting statistics, back when the winger competed for BK Häcken, in one of the games the Swede got a hattrick of assists. However, when it comes to goals, the clash with Korona was Wålemark’s first performance in senior football during which he found the back of the net three times. Hence, it is no surprise that the winger took the match ball as a souvenir.
“That’s true, I did score two goals in the past, which usually made me think about a hat-trick, but ever since junior football, I haven’t managed to achieve it. There is no point in denying that three goals taste better than two, no comparison,” said the winger with a wide smile. The hattrick also marked the Swede’s debut goal for Lech.
In the previous three league games and the most recent Polish Cup match, the winger had opportunities to score his first goal for the team from Poznań. However, it wasn’t until Sunday that he added his name to the goal scorers’ sheet and ended up achieving 100% shot efficiency – three shots and three goals. Match performances don’t get much better than that.
“The ball didn’t hit the net before, but every day you work on your finishing in order to be ready for this kind of game during which you have three chances and convert them all into goals. I am very happy with the goals because they helped the team and I am hoping that in the next matches I will also score,” emphasised the young player.
Wålemark’s hattrick was composed of two goals scored with his stronger, left foot and one header. Between goals number 2 and number 3, barely 127 seconds have passed. The latter was worth three league points and extended Lech’s winning streak in the league to 6 games.
“In every one of those situations, I had to make a decision quickly; there was no time to think. Behind all of it are lots of hours spent in training, but I am aware there are still areas where I need to improve. One of them is playing with my head – I could be more efficient in this aspect and I admit that it still needs work,” explained the Swedish winger who was Lech’s hero on Sunday.
