Lech Poznań - Motor Lublin 1:2
After six league wins in a row, Lech Poznań quite unexpectedly ended their successful streak in a clash with Motor Lublin. The PKO BP Ekstraklasa newcomers beat Niels Frederiksen’s squad 2:1 at Bułgarska Street. Mikael Ishak scored the only goal for Lech.
Frederiksen’s team quickly bounced back from the shocking loss against Resovia Rzeszów (0:1) in the Polish Cup and only a few days later the players from Poznań beat Korona Kielce 3:2. The win enabled Lech to maintain a safe advantage in the league table. However, to hold onto their secure spot at the top of the ranking, they also needed to beat Motor Lublin.
The hosts were determined to dominate from the first whistle and succeeded – Lech was in control of the game, held onto the ball and spent most of the time on Motor’s half of the pitch. As a result, 24 minutes into the game, Mikael Ishak changed the score to 1:0 for the hosts – Afonso Sousa spotted the captain in the penalty area and the latter confidently converted the pass into a goal. However, Lech’s joy didn’t last long – only 60 seconds later, Motor Lublin equalized when Samuel Mraz took advantage of the miscommunication within Lech’s defensive line. A few minutes later, Lech responded with another goal, but this time Mikael Ishak was offside, hence the goal was disallowed.
The hosts didn’t look as well in the second half. In addition, their opponent found the back of the net for the second time, also thanks to Mraz, which made the situation much harder for Lech. From then onwards, the Ekstraklasa newcomers moved deeper into the defence and Lech struggled to come close to their goal. In the added time, Mbaye Ndiaye came close to making the loss even more painful for the hosts, but in a one-on-one clash with Bartosz Mrozek, it was the goalkeeper who triumphed. Not long later, the referee ended the match and Lech lost a home game for the first time this season.
