Filip Dagerstål will stay at Lech Poznań. Following a one-year loan, the centre-back signed an official contract with the club from Poland.
The player born in Norrköping started his career at the local IFK – a club for which he made 156 appearances between the years 2014 and 2020. In January 2021, Dagerstål joined FK Chimki and after a year at the Russian club, he returned to the Swedish team on loan. Then, ahead of the 2022/2023 season, Dagerstål moved temporarily to Poznań. Throughout the past campaign, the Swede appeared in 31 games for the Polish side. He helped the team make it to the quarterfinals of the Europa Conference League.
The centre-back’s great disposition was acknowledged by the Swedish national team coach, Janne Andersson, who called up Dagerstål for the September Nations League matches. Lech has been talking to the defender for a while now, eager for the Swede to stay at the club for longer. At the beginning of this week, FIFA released a statement regarding new regulations that apply to players competing for Russian clubs. As a result of these new regulations, Dagerstål could finally sign an official contract with Lech. The defender himself expressed happiness about the new agreement, emphasizing his sympathy for Poznań.
“Of course, it’s a very important day for me; I feel excited. I wanted it [the new contract] for a while now and I am glad that the club did so too. We have only one match to go [this season] but I already cannot wait for the upcoming games; I await them impatiently. I am very happy to have sealed the deal and that I will continue my career here, in Poznań,” said the defender shortly after signing the new contract.
Lech’s Vice-President Piotr Rutkowski also emphasised his joy about the agreement with the Swedish centre-back. Rutkowski highlighted that it’s yet another step towards stabilizing the senior team squad. “We were determined to keep Filip around because we want to stabilize the squad. Dagerstål together with Antonio Milic formed the first-choice centre-back duo. Filip adapted to the club very quickly, which isn’t always the case. This was one of the proofs of his professionalism. We are happy to have our primary centre-backs stay with us for the upcoming years,” explained Rutkowski.
