After two draws in a row, Lech is finally back on the winning track. In the second round of the Fortuna Polish Cup, Lech Poznań defeated Zawisza Bydgoszcz 4:0. Filip Wilak (brace), Filip Szymczak, and Kristoffer Velde found the back of the net.
As a team playing in the international arena, Lech started this season’s Polish Cup competition in the second round. Their first opponent was the fourth-division Zawisza Bydgoszcz. Lech was a definite favourite in this clash and they proved their dominance with a confident win.
Lech’s starting line-up included four homegrown players, for one of whom – Maksymilian Dziuba – it was a debut. The youngster could have gotten an assist in his first official game for the team from Poznań, however, Filip Szymczak’s shot was slightly off target, however, a few moments earlier, the striker found the back of the net and opened the scoring sheet. Shortly before halftime, the 21-year-old was fouled in Zawisza’s box and the referee awarded Lech a penalty kick. Kristoffer Velde’s first shot was stopped by the keeper from Bydgoszcz, but his follow-up attempt was impossible to save.
John van den Brom’s team didn’t slow down in the second half – Filip Wilak scored his first two goals for Lech, following two great passes from Filip Szymczak. The Tuesday match was also an important one for Ali Gholizadeh who made his first appearance in an official game for Lech - the Iranian player has finally recovered from an injury and is now available for selection.
