Lech Poznan won the Friday league clash with Zaglebie Lubin 3:0. Arajuuri, Jevtic and Kownacki scored the goals that were worth three important points for the team from Poznan.
Bjelica decided not to make any changes in the starting line-up that has recently been performing really well. It didn’t take long for the footballers to prove that they are in great form. In the 5th minute Jevtic converted a free kick into a cross to Gajos, the latter was blocked, but luckily for Lech, Jevtic recovered the ball, sent another pass into the box and this time Arajuuri placed the ball in the net.
A couple of minutes later Lech had another good scoring chance. In the 13th minute Jevtic rushed into the box and sent a good pass along the goal line, but the defenders stopped the ball before any of Jevtic’s teammates received it. Zaglebie fired the first shot at Lech’s goal in the 16th minute, but Papadopulos’ attempt wasn’t on target. The guests’ determination to score another goal was indisputable and they soon succeeded. In the 22nd minute, Jevtic was the one who executed a corner kick. Jach blocked the ball, but the Swiss offensive player recovered it and sent another pass into the penalty area. This time no one touched the ball and it ended in the back of the net.
Zaglebie had nothing to lose and they tried catching up with their rival. However, an offensive style of play meant that Lech had more space and multiple opportunities to counterattack… Which resulted in the third goal. Gajos sent a pass to Jevtic who had a lot of free space around him, the Swiss player cut into the middle and gave the ball away to Kownacki. The youngster had a difficult task to complete, but he managed to head the ball into the back of the net, setting the score at halftime to three nil.
After the break, Zaglebie became even more courageous in its offensive attempts. The hosts began playing faster football, which resulted in more goal scoring chances. Papadopulos had a great opportunity to score for his team when he received a pass from Wozniak inside the box, but Bednarek stopped the forward from scoring at the last moment. The same footballer fired a shot at Lech’s goal shortly afterward, but his attempt wasn’t good enough to surprise Putnocky.
Most of the play in the second half took place on Lech’s half of the pitch, but Putnocky’s great interventions saved the guests from conceding a goal. Lech gradually started regaining control of the match and Tralka, Kownacki and Gajos all ended up trying to score the fourth goal. Nevertheless, their attempts were either slightly not on target, or Forenc intervened successfully.
Lech was forced to concentrate on the defense, while Zaglebie kept on trying to score a goal. However, Lech’s defense line made little errors and as the minutes passed, they were closer to finishing the match with a clean sheet for the fourth time in a row. When Zaglebie was awarded a penalty kick in the 79th minute after Bednarek fouled Buksa in the box, the guests’ great defensive series was in danger. Nonetheless, Putnocky’s impressive form helped him stop Janus from placing the ball in the back of the net. Lech’s players had a couple of scoring chances in the closing minutes of the match, Jevtic being involved in every single one of them, but neither of the teams managed to score again, therefore the game ended with a three-goal win for Lech.
