After a goalless draw in Częstochowa, Lech Poznań travelled to Lubin to face the local team Zagłębie. This time, Niels Frederiksen’s squad won three league points thanks to a goal from Afonso Sousa.
Lech has finally put an end to a streak of four away games without a win. In the previous matches, the players from Poznań failed to bring three league points back from Chorzów, Częstochowa, and Łódź (twice). In addition, the clash with Zagłębie Lubin was an opportunity for Lech to jump to the top of the table since Jagiellonia Białystok lost against Cracovia 2:4.
The hosts were the first ones to create a goal-scoring opportunity, but Kusztal’s and Wdowiak’s shots weren't surprising for Bartosz Mrozek. However, Lech’s response was more efficient. In one of their first offensive attempts, Ali Gholizadeh spotted Afonso Sousa and set him up with a precise pass that cut through Zagłębie’s defensive line and the Portuguese midfielder converted the pass into a precise shot. The hosts were determined to equalize as soon as possible, but their efforts were effortlessly stopped by Lech.
In the second half, Mikael Ishak had an opportunity to score his fifth goal of the season, but despite receiving a great pass from Radosław Murawki, the Swede’s finish wasn’t good enough to cause problems for Hładun. Not long later, Wdowiak, Radwański, and Mata tested Mrozek’s form, but Lech’s young keeper intervened confidently in each situation. Shortly before Wdowiak came off the pitch, he came close to scoring an equalizer for Zagłębie but just as he was about to enter Lech’s box, Joel Pereira caught up with the winger and stopped him from firing a shot on target. Niels Frederiksen’s squad successfully held onto the one-goal lead and ended up bringing back home three league points.
