Lech Poznan beat Zaglebie Lubin 1:0 in an away league clash. Christian Gytkjaer scored the winner for Lech at the beginning of the second half. Regardless of other scores, the team from Poznan will remain the leader of Ekstraklasa.
Lech quickly took control of the game despite Gornik’s high pressing. The hosts moved deeper into the defense whilst the team from Poznan remained in possession of the ball for a majority of the time. In the 6th minute, Lech had the first scoring chance. Kostevych crossed the ball into the box from the left flank and Gytkjaer intercepted the pass, however, Dane’s shot was easily stopped by Gornik’s keeper.
Gradually, the hosts started to dominate the game. Gornik had a great goal-scoring opportunity following Vujadinovic’s foul near Lech’s box, but Starzynski’s shot was off target. A couple of minutes later, the team from Poznan was given a free kick too, but Majewski’s attempt was far from accurate. Both teams played open, offensive football, but they struggled to create good scoring chances. In the 37th minute, Jozwiak’s shot was blocked, while Kostevych’s attempt from the 44th minute was stopped by the keeper. Interestingly, it was the first shot on target that Friday evening.
Lech came close to taking the lead shortly after halftime when Majewski spotted Gajos in the penalty box and sent his a precise pass. However, Lech captain sent the ball flying above the crossbar. The team from Poznan finally succeeded in the 52nd minute. Gumny’s cross from the right flank was extended by Situm and Gytkjaer, who was waiting in the penalty box, tapped the ball into the back of the net for the 18th time this season.
Gornik took control of the match after conceding a goal and their offensive actions were problematic for Lech’s defensive line to stop. A couple of minutes later, Czerwinski came close to equalizing, but his shot from within the penalty area flew above the goal. Meanwhile, Lech played smartly and focused on intercepting Gornik’s crucial passes. However, the hosts were determined to equalize and the put high pressure on Lech’s defensive line which resulted in a number of good scoring chances.
Lech waited patiently for an opportunity to counterattack. Jozwiak was very active on the wings and looked for spaces to pass to Gytkjaer. However, since the team from Poznan had little scoring chances in the closing minutes and the most important task was to win the match, Bjelica sent in Janicki to strengthen the defensive with another, 5th defender. Meanwhile, Gornik’s coach sent in a second striker in hope that his team could equalize, but the score didn’t change and it was Lech that gathered 3 important points.
