Lech Poznan lost its first match this season. In the 2nd round of Ekstraklasa, Wisla Plock beat the team from Poznan 1:0. Bjelica’s players finished the match in 10 men following a red card for Tetteh.
The footballers from Poznan attempted to impose their own style of play from the opening minutes. The guests were also visibly determined to score as soon as possible. In the 2nd minute Majewski crossed the ball to Radut who came from behind the defenders, but the angle was too sharp for the latter to place the ball in the net. 4 minutes later Lech was awarded a free kick. Majewski approached the ball, but instead of crossing the ball into the box, he decided to shoot. However, one of the defenders blocked the ball in time.
Lech had an advantage and tried to control the play. The match was open and both sides were focused on the offensive, and as a result there was a lot of free space on the pitch. In the 15th minute Reca wanted to surprise Lech. The winger ran down the right flank, crossed into the middle of the pitch and fired a shot which forced Buric to intervene. 2 minutes later Szyminski’s header flew a couple of centimeters next to Lech’s goal.
Bjelica’s players struggled to create scoring chances. The guests did not shoot often and although they occupied Wisla’s half of the pitch for the majority of the time, that didn’t seem to put them any closer to scoring. Lech hoped for set pieces which were a great chance to score. One of corner kicks awarded to Lech nearly ended with a goal, but Tetteh was blocked at the last moment. The hosts had fewer, but better scoring chances. Shortly before the halftime whistle, Reca fired a shot at the goal, but his attempt was blocked.
The second half began poorly for Lech. In the 48th minute Lech was significantly weakened after Tetteh was awarded a straight red card. Lech’s captain fouled Reca and the referee had no doubts as to whether he should kick Tetteh out. A moment later Wisla had another opportunity to change the score. This time Reca was the playmaker of the action – he raced down the right flank, left Dilaver behind and sent a pass to Bilinski. However, the forward’s attempt was slightly off target.
Despite being one man down, Lech dominated the match. The situation was challenging for Lech, therefore the coach decided to make a couple of substitutions. Tralka and Gajos came in, and so did Gytkjaer. Nonetheless, Wisla had better scoring chances. Merebashvili’s shot did not surprise Buric, but Furman’s attempt did and the latter’s shot fell into the back of the net following a poor save from the Bosnian keeper.
Lech was determined to equalize and in the 70th minute the guests fired the first shot on target. Tralka’s header was accurate, but easy to save. 2 minutes later Wisla had a chance to add another goal to their account. However, this time Buric stopped Bilinski in time. This was one of a few scoring chances for Wisla. The hosts guarded their goal and despite Lech’s offensive attitude, the hosts collected all 3 points.
