In the 34th league game of the season, Lech Poznan drew with Wisla Plock. Since the team from Poznan failed to collect 3 points, they won’t be able to recapture the top rank in the league table.
On Saturday evening Lech Poznan faced Wisla Plock, a high-ranked team with a shot at the championship and an ambition to play on the international arena next season. Lech successfully dominated the opening period of the game and they had their first goal-scoring opportunity in the 3rd minute when Situm sent a precise cross into the box from the left flank, but none of Lech’s players jumped high enough to redirect the ball into the back of the net. Shortly afterward, the Croatian footballer was fouled in the penalty area, but the referee did not use his whistle. Lech was in control of the match however, it wasn’t until the 23rd minute that the guests built another scoring chance. Situm was yet again the one to pass, but Gytkjaer’s attempt was successfully stopped by one of Wisla’s defenders.
In the 30th minute, Lech got another chance to take the lead. This time Situm received a good pass from Jozwiak, but the Croatian failed to beat Wisla’s goalkeeper. The keeper managed to save Gytkjaer’s attempt too. In the closing minutes of the first half, Lech dominated the rival, but all of their scoring opportunities were successfully stopped by Wisla’s defensive line.
The hosts initiated the second half with a series of offensive actions. Lech struggled to find space in Wisla’s box until the 57th minute when Kostevych attempted to lob the keeper but his shot was slightly off target. In the next minutes, most of the play took place in the midfield and neither of the team came close to scoring. 15 minutes before the final whistle, Gytkjaer received a chance to score his 19th goal of the season, but his header flew a couple of the centimeters next to the post.
Wisla had two great opportunities to win the game very shortly before the final time, but both of their offensive attempts were stopped by Lech’s keeper. First, Putnocky saved Lukowski’s shot, and then the keeper stopped another attempt from Szymanski. Lech had a goal-scoring opportunity too, but Jevtic’s precise cross from a free kick went to waste when the linesman ruled that Tralka was offside. Since neither of the teams found a way to place the ball in the back of the net, they had to share points.
