Lech Poznan won the Friday league clash with Wisla Cracow. Pedro Tiba scored the only goal of the match and helped Lech secure the 3rd rank in the table ahead of winter league break.
Both teams looked very good in the first half, playing at a high tempo and creating numerous scoring chances. Lech had the first opportunity to take the lead in the 8th minute when Klups, who was located on the right flank, noticed Wasilewski and sent him a well-timed pass. However, the latter’s shot hit the crossbar. A couple of minutes later, Wisla caused problems to Lech’s defensive line. Kort came one-on-one with the keeper from Poznan, but fortunately for the guests, Wasilewski stopped Kort’s offensive run in time.
Both teams were very determined to score. In the 21st minute, Kostal attacked from the left flank and his shot from an acute angle was only slightly off target. Afterwards, Lech took control of the game. Chaos in Wisla’s penalty box resulted in Tiba recovering the ball on the 17th meter and firing a shot that did not force Wisla’s keeper to intervene. A couple of minutes later, the goalkeeper had to produce an impressive save when Amaral fired a shot from outside the box. Lis stopped the attempt and Gytkjaer took control of the ball, but Dane failed too.
The second half was less exhilarating than the first 45 minutes. The opening minutes were full of slow, careful offensive attacks. The two sides waited patiently for their rival to make a move. Finally, in the 58th minute, Lech came closer to Wisla’s goal. Gytkjaer received a great cross from the right flank but his attempt on target was successfully stopped by Lis.
Lech finally managed to place the ball in the back of the net in the 75th minute. Makuszewski raced into the box but he was stopped by Wisla’s defenders and the ball landed at Tiba’s feet. The Portuguese midfielder sent a flat, strong shot straight into the net. Lech remained in control of the match until the final whistle and the team from Poznan collected 3 important league points.
