In the 27th league match of the season, Lech Poznan drew 0:0 with Wisla Cracow. It is the second time in a row that Lech has to share points with its rival, however, the team from Poznan still remains unbeaten this spring.
Wisla dominated the opening minutes of the match. The hosts were in possession of the ball for the majority of the time and they controlled the play for long periods. However, it was Lech that the first goal scoring opportunity before Wisla did. In the 5th minute Makuszewski sent a cross into the box and the ball was heading in the direction of Robak, but one of the defenders intercepted it at the last moment. Wisla responded with an offensive action led by Stilic. The midfielder passed to Boguski and if it wasn’t for Kostevych’s last-minute intervention, Wisla’s player would get a good opportunity to place the ball in the net.
Lech had the best scoring chance in the first half of the match. In the 15th minute Robak sent the ball to Jevtic who was running into the box, and the Swiss player forwarded it to Makuszewski. However, the latter’s shot was stopped by the goalkeeper. Zaluska was forced to intervene again a couple of minutes later when Jevtic sent a cross from the corner into the box and Gajos redirected it towards the goal. But before the goalkeeper stopped the ball, Robak changed its direction and caused problems to the keeper.
After that, Wisla regained control of the play and dominated the game. Stilic played a key role in Wisla’s offensive attacks. He often passed to Malecki and Boguski who kept Lech’s defenders very busy. In the 35th minute Wisla got a chance to counterattack. Gajos lost the ball in the midfield, Boguski recovered it and sent it to Brozek immediately. However, Bednarek was a bit faster and he stopped the player just in time.
The second half began with Lech’s intensified offensive actions. Gajos, Majewski and Tetteh had scoring chances, but only the latter caused problems to Wisla’s goalkeeper. In the 54th minute Lech counterattacked. Makuszewski rushed into the box and sent a great ball to Majewski, but the player failed to redirect the ball into the back of the net. Shortly afterwards, Robak could have done it himself, but his pass flew above the crossbar.
Lech was the better team in the second half and they did not cease pressing on Wisla’s defensive line. However, the guests lacked precision in their passes, as well as shots on target. In the 69th minute Bille came on the pitch. It was the Dane’s first league match after 8 months of absence. Last time the footballer played for Lech was on 12th September when the team from Poznan won with Cracovia. The 29-year-old was very active on the Friday night; he ran a lot, fought to recover the ball, but that did not impact the score. Meanwhile, Lech had to remain cautious in the defensive because even though the hosts were no longer as dangerous as in the first half, they were still capable of a lethal counterattack.
In the 80th minute Wisla built a rapid offensive action following a set piece from Lech. Brlek raced towards Lech’s goal, but his finish was off target. On the other end of the pitch Bille had a scoring chance of his own when he left his marksmen behind and received a cross from Kostevych, but his attempt was imprecise as well. A couple of minutes later Pawlowski was in a similarly good scoring situation, but he slipped before he could place the ball in the net. Lech was awarded two corner kicks in the injury time, but neither influenced the score and, therefore, the two teams had to share points.
