In the 2nd round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznań faced Widzew Łódź in an away clash. The match ended in a 2:1 win for the hosts. Mikael Ishak scored the only goal for Lech Poznań.
Niels Frederiksen's squad was in good spirits ahead of the Saturday clash with Widzew – in the opening league game of the season, Lech triumphed 2:0 against Górnik Zabrze. However, it took Widzew 10 minutes to dim Lech’s optimism. Jakub Sypek and Fran Alvarez both found the back of the net early in the match. It took Lech a moment to get back up, but they soon started focusing on making up for the losses. Frederiksen’s squad created multiple chances using the two flanks but lacked efficiency in the last phase of their offensive attempts. Finally, towards the end of the first half, Lech scored – their high pressing paid off as they recovered the ball on Widzew's half of the pitch and a beautiful team effort from Ishak, Sousa, and Kozubal resulted in the Swedish captain finding the back of the net.
Lech continued dominating on the pitch in the second half, however, their control of the ball didn’t result in many good goal-scoring opportunities. In the 82nd minute, Dino Hotić equalized with a header, but a VAR analysis resulted in the goal being disallowed due to an offside. Despite Lech’s intense efforts, they failed to score again, and it was Widzew who added three points to their league account.
