In the 25th round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznań beat Widzew Łódź 2:1 and secured the 3rd rank in the league table. Filip Marchwiński and Kristoffer Velde scored the goals for Lech.
Following the Thursday Europa Conference League and the quarterfinal draw, on Sunday Lech travelled to Łódź for a crucial league clash. The two sides were just 3 points apart before the game, hence it was essential that Lech won the match. Coach John van den Brom made three changes in the squad compared to the match against Djurgardens IF – Kristoffer Velde, Filip Marchwińki and Adriel Ba Loua replaced Michał Skóraś who accumulated yellow cards as well as Afonso Sousa and Mikael Ishak who were given rest.
In the first half, both sides played somewhat cautiously with neither of them creating good goal-scoring opportunities in the first part of the match. In the second 45 minutes, the game became much more interesting for the crowd in the stands. The first shot on target of the game turned into a goal – for the hosts. Bartłomiej Pawłowski came one-on-one with Filip Bednarek and gave no chance to the keeper as he sent the ball under the crossbar and into the net.
Widzew’s fans enjoyed the lead for a minute only – very quickly Lech equalized when Filip Marchwiński beat Henrich Ravas with a header. Within 5 minutes, it was already 2:1 for John van den Brom’s squad. In the 78th minute, Kristoffer Velde received a great cross from Joel Pereira and scored a beautiful header.
The team from Poznań held onto the win until the finish time and got their 12th league win of the season. With 43 points in their account, Lech is currently ranked 3rd. Now the players are off for the international break. Lech’s next PKO BP Ekstraklasa game – against Pogoń Szczecin, at home - is scheduled for April 2nd, 5:30 pm.
