"We felt the support"

In the 15th round of PKO Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan drew with Korona Kielce 0:0. It’s an unfortunate result considering how the match looked like but also because on Sunday the initiative “Support with class” took place. The project enables organised groups of children and youth under the age of 16 to attend Lech’s home games for free, hence on Sunday the stands were filled with young supporters.

“One of the main advantages of playing matches earlier during the day is that the youngest fans can also attend, whereas usually kick-off times make it impossible. We felt their support and we are disappointed that we couldn’t give them three points in exchange for their amazing input,” explained Christian Gytkjaer.

“The atmosphere during the Sunday match was brilliant and we felt the support coming from the stands. It’s a pity that the fans couldn’t witness any goals. Playing in front of such a crowd is truly amazing hence we are even more sorry that the match ended in a draw,” added Lubomir Satka.

In total, over 11,000 children appeared on the stands on Sunday thanks to the initiative. The two halves of the clash with Korona were drastically different; the fans gathered at the stadium definitely enjoyed more the first 45 minutes. “We would like to thank the supporter for showing up in such numbers. Playing in front of a crowd that big improves our performance and hopefully the way we played in the first half will attract more people to the stadium. This time we lacked precision and efficiency, but we know how to convert scoring chances into goals and that’s exactly what we will do in the next game,” emphasised Tymoteusz Puchacz.

Despite an unsatisfactory score, it’s worth highlighting that the project “Support with class” brings luck to the team from Poznan – since 2013, whenever the players are being supported by thousands of students, they never lose at home. The statistics show 9 wins and 5 draws since the project was launched. “The initiative is a great idea because our recent performances might have not been satisfactory, but we still received amazing support from our young fans. I hope that this initiative will continue because it’s such a great idea both from our perspective, and the kids’. Seeing so many children in the stands triggers a big smile,” added Kamil Jozwiak.
