Three matches in eight days

On Saturday, Lech Poznań faced Stal Mielec at home (2:1). Now John van den Brom’s squad will enter an intense period – on Thursday, they will play against Raków Częstochowa (8:00 pm) at Enea Stadium, and then on Sunday, they will travel to Szczecin for the clash with Pogoń.

Last season, Lech’s players were used to playing every three games. However, in this campaign, the squad was eliminated early from the European competition, resulting in a less intense match schedule. However, following the recent international break, Lech will have a busier period due to the postponed games. Between September 23rd and October 1st, John van den Brom’s team will play two league games and a postponed clash with Raków.

The players’ focus is now on the upcoming match against Raków.

“In reality, we have a five-day break between the two games which means that our training cycle resembles a standard one, as though we’d play once a week,” explained Lech’s defender, Alan Czerwiński. “However, before we face Pogoń on Sunday, we will have less time to train, hence it will be a more intense period. Still, playing regularly brings us joy and I believe everyone will be 100% ready for what the next week brings,” emphasized the Pole.

The preparations shouldn’t be an issue – last season, Lech proved that they can manage an intense workload just fine. “Surely no one will complain about the situation because we know how to play in such a match rhythm. We are aware of what’s at stake in the clash with Raków and that motivates us. Everyone will give their all to win. Now our rival is representing Poland in the international arena, hence in autumn, they will be playing every three days. However, we try not to focus too much on that fact – instead, we want to prepare for the Thursday match as well as possible and win the game,” said Lech’s midfielder, Filip Marchwiński.

The end of October will also be an intense period for John van den Brom and his squad – that’s when Lech will play the postponed game against Jagiellonia Białystok, along with Polish Cup clashes.
