On Friday Lech Poznan will face Slask Wroclaw in the 10th league match of the season. For the third time in a row, the team from Poznan will have to defend the position of the leader. “It’s just brilliant,” said Mario Situm, Lech’s midfielder.
Lech Poznan moved up to the 1st rank in the league table after the clash with Arka Gdynia which Lech won 3:0. Since then Lech has defended the position of the leader successfully. All footballers emphasize how much joy it gives them to be ranked this high. “Of course, it’s great to be the first in the league and look at all other teams from up there. However, we remain humble,” explained Nicklas Barkroth. His teammate Mario Situm agreed with Bakroth, but he also pointed out one thing. “That situation requires responsibility from us. We aren’t here by accident. It’s just the beginning and we all have to remember about it,” said the Croatian midfielder who’s played in every league match so far.
The responsibility that Situm mentioned is related to all the hard work the players have to put in in order to defend the position of the leader every week. “We focus on ourselves only. We need to stay determined and improve our game all the time. That’s what matters, not how our rivals play,” said Vernon de Marco who competed in 2 league matches this season. It’s very likely that with Kostevych being injured, he will become the no. 1 left-back.
On the opposite flank plays Robert Gumny. The young defender says that in his opinion the pressure Lech’s under might be an advantage. “It’s great to get out on the pitch knowing that every match put us closer to winning the league this season,” explained the right-back. Barkroth also mentioned how important self-confidence is, but also how risky it can be to be overconfident. “On one hand our morals are higher, but on the other hand, we don’t stop working on our weaknesses. We know that there are things we still can improve,” said the Swede.
Mario Situm also mentioned another advantage Lech has that not a lot of people recognize – the experience that Lech has as a team, but also as individual players. “The experience is incredibly important in remaining conscious of our current situation. I am talking about long-term perspective. The experience helps us remain humble, which makes us more focused and helps us make the right decisions,” added the Croatian.
