On Sunday, Afonso Sousa scored his first brace for Lech Poznań. The Portuguese youngster found the back of the net twice in the clash with Legia (2:2). These were Afonso’s first away goals this season.
Sousa joined Lech Poznań in the summer of 2022 and it took him just over a month to score a debut goal for the team from Greater Poland – it was in the clash with Vikingur when he set the final score to 4:1. The goals that followed – against Warta Poznań (1:0), and Piast Gliwice (1:0) – have been of key importance and ended up being worth 3 points. Sousa also found the back of the net in the Fortuna Polish Cup match against Śląsk Wrocław (1:3).
In the recent clash with Legia Warsaw, Afonso scored the fourth brace in his career. The first time that the Portuguese youngster scored twice in one match was back in 2019, when he played for FC Porto, in a UEFA Youth League game against FK Liepāja (3:0). Sousa repeated the achievement when playing for Portugal’s U-21 squad, in a match against Cyprus. The 22-year-old also scored a brace for Porto’s senior team when the Portuguese side was playing against Varzim and won 2:0. In that particular game, Sousa competed on an unusual position, that is, as a striker.
Sousa’s braces:
FK Liepāja U-19 – FC Porto U-19 0:3
Varzim – FC Porto B 0:2
Portugal U-21 – Cyprus U-21 6:0
Legia Warsaw – Lech Poznań 2:2
