Jan Urban's team began the season with a goalless tie. In the first round of Lotto Ekstraklasa, the team from Poznan drew with Slask Wroclaw 0:0.
Lech performed really well in the opening minutes and shortly before the referee began the match, the team from Poznan got a chance to score. In the 2nd minute Nicki Bille received the ball in the penalty area and sent a cross to Marcin Robak, but the latter's shot was stopped by the goalkeeper at the last moment. 8 minutes later another goal-scoring opportunity came when Kedziora's strong, flat center was redirected by the goalkeeper straight to Bille. The Dane fired a shot under the crossbar, but the goalkeeper intervened successfully.
After the exhilarating opening minutes, the tempo of the match gradually decreased. Wilusz and Goncalves both decided to fire a shot at the rival’s goal from outside the penalty area, but neither of the attempts was on target. Robak had another goal-scoring opportunity in the 20th minute when he received a good ball from Formella, but this time his shot did not surprise the goalkeeper either.
In the 37th minute Pawelek had a more difficult task when he was left one-against-one with Bille. The goalkeeper failed to stop the ball, but the Dane's shot wasn't on target and it bounced off the post. Despite Lech's domination, shortly before halftime the hosts built a good opportunity to score. Madej fired a strong and accurate shot at the goal, but Buric’s outstanding intervention saved Lech from conceding a goal.
In the second half both teams had little chances to score. Morioka attempted to surprise Buric with a shot from outside the penalty area, but the ball flew next to the post. Lech was forced to remain cautious in order not to concede a goal. The team from Poznan focused on keeping the ball away from their half of the pitch, but that did not results in plentiful of goal-scoring opportunities. Gumny's offensive runs and Tetteh’s playmaking had a little influence on the match itself. Lech seemed to have problems overcoming the defense line, both, with long balls and shots.
The team from Poznan also had to watch out for Slask's counterattacks. One of such offensive actions ended with Grajciar crossing the ball into the penalty area and Morioka ready to redirect the ball into the net, but luckily for Lech, Arajuuri's slide cleared the threat. The one and only shot on target in the second half came in the 85th minute when Robak sent the ball to Kownacki and the young forward fired a shot at the goal. Nevertheless, the goalkeeper intervened without problems and the match eventually ended with a goalless draw.
