Following a painful loss in the match against Spartak Trnava, Lech’s players were expected to bounce back and prove that it was just a minor glitch. Unfortunately, John van den Brom’s squad didn’t meet the expectations as Śląsk Wrocław triumphed 3:1 in the Sunday game and Lech fell down the league table.
John van den Brom decided to make major changes in the starting line-up ahead of the Sunday PKO BP Ekstraklasa match, with the biggest one being Bartosz Mrozek in the goal. The young goalkeeper will not have many positive memories of the league clash since Śląsk fired three goals on target, and all three ended up hitting the back of the net. However, Mrozek isn’t the one to blame for the conceded goals – it was his teammates from the defensive line that made costly mistakes.
Lech’s players struggled a lot to neutralize Erik Exposito who scored twice and then got an assist. Even though the players from Poznań managed to change the score to 1:1 thanks to a penalty kick converted by Kristoffer Velde, they failed to stop Śląsk from taking the lead again.
Patryk Szwedzik, who came in from the bench, was the author of the last goal which set the final score to 3:1.
“It’s a good thing that we have plenty of time to train now because there are a lot of things that require improving, especially in the defence. We have work to do; a lot of it,” said coach John van den Brom in the post-match conference. “But we will get through it, I am sure of it,” added the Dutchman.
