In the 19th round of PKO Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan drew with Slask Wroclaw 1:1. Darko Jevtic scored a screamer in the closing minutes of the match which got Lech an important league point.
Slask welcomed Lech at their home ground in Wroclaw in front of empty stands. The lack of a crowd to cheer them on had an impact on the game itself – for the first 15 minutes, the league clash resembled a friendly match, hence nothing exhilarating happened. The side from Poznan attacked every once in a while but they were indecisive in the last phase of their attempts. However, the closer to the halftime, the more dangerous Slask became.
Lech received two warnings. First, the hosts counterattacked rapidly and set up Pich with a perfect chance to score. However, the forward wasted the opportunity. A few minutes later, Cholewiak came one-on-one with the keeper but it was van der Hart that triumphed. The third warning never came because in the following counterattack, Lech’s keeper was forced to take the ball out of the net. A flat cross into the box wasn’t intercepted by any of Lech’s defenders, therefore Cholewiak had no problems tapping the ball into the back of the net. Before the referee announced halftime, the hosts scored once more, however, luckily for the side from Poznan, this time the referee spotted an offside.
Shortly after the game was resumed, Slask built another great goal-scoring opportunity. This time, however, Rogne intervened in time and stopped Pich from placing the ball in the net. A few moments later, on the other end of the pitch, Amaral’s dangerous shot missed the goal by centimeters. Similarly, Cholewiak’s header from a couple of minutes later flew a few centimeters above the crossbar. From then onwards, Lech gradually started dominating the match. Tiba’s header stopped on the post, whilst Gytkjaer’s dangerous attempt was blocked by one of the defenders. Despite the fact that Lech seemed so close to scoring, it was Slask that found a way to put the ball in the goal. However, the referee once again disallowed the goal due to an offside.
Then Moder appeared on the pitch and before he could properly start the match, he was fouled right outside the box. Jevtic converted the free kick into a beautiful precise shot beat his former teammate Putnocky and the ball hit the back of the net. Lech was determined to get another one and win all three points, but they failed to do so, hence the two sides were forced to share points at the end of the match.
