Lech Poznań and Club Brugge reached an agreement on Michał Skóraś’s transfer. The Polish winger will officially join the Belgian side on July 1st on a 4-year contract. “Michał is ready for a new challenge. Here at Lech, he pretty much achieved it all: a Championship title, quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa Conference League, a debut in the national team, and an appearance at the World Cup,” highlighted Lech’s owner, Piotr Rutkowski.
Michał Skóraś has been performing amazingly over the past months and the stats are there to prove it. In the current season, the Pole appeared in 48 matches and scored 15 goals – more than any other winger at Lech has ever scored. In addition, Skóraś also got 6 assists. In total, the young winger already has 127 club caps on his account. In autumn, he debuted in the Polish national team and ended up travelling with the team for the World Cup in Qatar. The 23-year-old even made an appearance in the clash with Argentina (2:0).
“A year ago, when we were extending the contract, we made an agreement that next summer Skóraś would receive a green light for a transfer if he feels ready and if there is an interesting offer which will enable him to continue developing professionally. Now we know that Michał is ready; following his great performances in the European arena, many clubs expressed their interest, and it became clear that he would take on a new challenge after the end of this season. Here at Lech, Michał pretty much achieved it all: a Championship title, quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa Conference League, a debut in the national team, and an appearance at the World Cup. He played over 100 matches for the senior team, hence he has the crucial experience,” explained Rutkowski.
At the beginning of the week, Lech reached an agreement with the Belgian side Club Brugge. The winger will be bound to the club on a 4-year contract. All financial conditions are covered by trade secrets.
Skóraś is a model example of a path travelled by a homegrown player. “He joined our Academy and trusted the path we have outlined for him. He won gold medals with the youth teams, and then we used a proven solution, i.e. a loan, so that he could gain experience in senior football. Jakub Moder, Kamil Jóźwiak, Robert Gumny – and more recently Filip Szymczak – have all travelled a similar path. After a loan, each of those players became an important element of the team and it was no different in the case of Michał who went on to earn the trust of multiple coaches. He worked hard to be here, and the last few months prove that he made the right decisions along the way. Michał is joining Club Brugge which is a club with many titles, regularly competing in European competition, and will enable Michał to take further steps in his football career,” emphasized Lech’s Sporting Director, Tomasz Rząsa.
Club Brugge is an 18-time Champion of Belgium. 5 of those titles, Club Brugge won in the last 7 years. Since the season 2016/17, the Belgian side played in the Champions League group phase 6 times. These numbers are a mere highlight of the club’s achievements and potential.
“I visited the club recently; the training ground makes a big impression. I have decided that Club Brugge is the best choice for me. Without a doubt it’s a club where I will have plenty of opportunities to further develop my skills. Lech shaped me into the footballer that I am today, and for that I am immensely grateful. My objective is to give it all for Lech until the end of the season, but I also want to take this opportunity to thank all the fans and people connected to the club for keeping their fingers crossed for me and wishing me all the best. I will keep on visiting Bułgarska Street – after all, it is my football home,” said Michał Skóraś who will officially become a Club Brugge player on July 1st, 2023.
