Lech lost the Polish Cup clash with Rakow Czestochowa. The team from Poznan was beaten 1:0 and eliminated from the competition.
The game began very well for the hosts who scored a goal in the 3rd minute. Szczepanski’s shot from outside the box was too difficult for Buric to stop and the ball landed in the back of the net. The keeper was forced to intervene again shortly afterward when Musiolik’s header was flying towards the goal. In the first 15 minutes of the match, Rakow had the game under control.
Finally, around the 20th minute, Lech woke up and started creating scoring chances. Tiba’s numerous attempts were either off target or easily stopped by Rakow’s keeper. Kostevych’s, Gajos’s, and Dioni’s collective offensive attack ended with a shot on target, but the goalkeeper caught the ball in time. The team from Poznan dominated the closing minutes of the first half but they couldn’t find a way to equalize.
The two teams struggled to take control of the ball in the second half, and most of the game took place in the midfield. Rakow got another scoring chance when Malinowski found space to fire a shot, but his attempt was stopped by Buric. Lech responded with an imprecise shot from Gajos and a poor finish from Gytakjaer.
For the next couple of minutes, the two teams once more fought for the ball in the midfield. The hosts were in possession of the ball more frequently than their top-division rival and even managed to score a second goal, but it was ruled offside following VAR verification. Lech failed to find a way to equalize, hence the match ended with a one-nil win for Rakow, and the team from Poznan was eliminated from the Polish Cup.
