Last weekend, Lech Poznań triumphed 3:1 in the league clash with Lechia Gdańsk. On Friday, Niels Frederiksen and his squad had a more challenging task as they travelled to Częstochowa to play against Raków. The match was a balanced show which ended up in a goalless draw.
Lech’s players were determined to make a statement as early as in last week’s clash with Lechia, hence as soon as the referee began the match, they focused on intense offensive attempts. It didn’t take them long to create the first goal-scoring opportunity. Dino Hotić spotted Afonso Sousa and sent him a precise long ball which managed to cut through Raków’s defensive line, but the Portuguese midfielder’s pass into the box was off target. It Raków a long time to respond with an offensive attempt of their own, but when Ante Crnac finally fired a shot at Lech’s goal, Bartosz Mrozek managed to stop the ball but not without problems.
In the second half, the hosts visibly dominated and even had a few chances to change the score. Vladyslav Kochergin came close to finding the back of the net when he recovered the ball inside Lech’s box but Mrozek intervened impressively. The 24-year-old keeper also managed to stop Jean Carlos in a one-on-one situation. On the other end of the pitch, Ali Gholizadeh sent a beautiful cross into the box, straight onto Bryan Fiabema’s head. Still, the Norwegian striker failed to redirect it into the goal. It was the last offensive attempt that the fans in Częstochowa witnessed and, as a result, the match ended in a goalless draw.
