After a crucial win against Pogoń Szczecin (1:0), Lech Poznań travelled to Cracow to face the local Puszcza Niepołomice. Tomasz Tułacz’s squad has been occupying the relegation zone, however, in the past weeks, they have been performing surprisingly well.
The Saturday match was an opportunity for Lech to climb to the second position in the league table, at least temporarily. But for that to happen, Mariusz Rumak’s team needed to beat their lower-ranked opponent. The task became much harder when in the 7th minute, the hosts found the back of the net for the first time that night. Bartosz Mrozek intervened well but failed to catch the ball and since Jordan Majchrzak was in the right place at the right time, he tapped the ball into the net. Despite being up by one goal, Puszcza seemed hungry for more and so they continued causing problems for Lech’s defensive line. 15 minutes later, the hosts scored once again – this time it was thanks to Artur Craciun who converted a well-played set piece into a second goal with a beautiful header.
The second half was more balanced with both sides creating a few goal-scoring opportunities. Most of the play took place near the hosts’ penalty area, however, Lech struggled to convert the chances into goals. A few minutes before the final whistle, Mikael Ishak’s volley landed in the back of the net – making the Swede the best foreign striker in Lech’s history. However, the goal wasn’t enough for the team from Poznań to win points against Puszcza.
