Due to the outbreak of coronavirus COVID-19 and the epidemic risk in Poland, the PKO Ekstraklasa has been halted and the matches will be postponed.
The decision when Ekstraklasa will resume won’t be announced until next week when UEFA releases an official statement regarding the current campaign, as well as the 2020/2021 season. Ekstraklasa S.A. has decided not to resume national competition at least until the end of March 2020.
“During the past 24h we have been in touch with the Polish Football Association as well as other leagues, and together we have decided to halt the competition. We have also consulted the decision with administrative figures and sanitary forces.
On Tuesday, UEFA will host a consultation with European football federations, ECA, and European Leagues which will potentially decide about the football calendar for the remaining of the season as well as key dates for the 2020/21 campaign. In accordance with the results of this consultation, we will work closely with the Polish Football Association and the clubs to make further decisions,” said Marcin Animucki, the Chairman of Ekstraklasa S.A.
