Nearly 40 thousand people appeared at INEA Stadium on the recent Sunday evening. The crowd filled in the stands to see the match between Lech and Arka Gdynia. “The atmosphere was amazing, only the result isn’t what we would like it to be,” said Lech's footballers after the match.
18 thousand fans seen on Sunday were children who joined the campaign called “Support With Class” (“Kibicuj z klasa”) and came to watch the match live. A bit less than 400 organized groups bought the ticket for the league clash. If it wasn’t for the 2028 seats left empty, a new record would be set! The highest attendance registered dates back to the clash with Legia Warsaw when 41 567 fans sat on the stands of INEA Stadium.
The guests highlight the amazing spectacle that the thousands of fans created on Sunday evening. “I have never seen so many people, neither did I witness so many journalists in one room,” said Grzegorz Nicinski, Arka’s coach. “We were following the pre-match events and we received an information that a large number of fans is going to attend the game. But that is what the footballers play for – to attract people,” emphasized Mateusz Szwoch, Arka’s midfielder.
Lech’s players were equally thrilled to have seen so many supporters on the stands. However, most of the team was simply disappointed for not delivering the desired result. “It is a pity that we failed to win. So many people came to watch us and we were very determined to satisfy them and win three league points,” explained Matus Putnocky, Lech’s goalkeeper.
However, Putnocky fulfilled his task well and kept the clean sheet. The one thing missing was efficiency in the offensive. “We are very disappointed because we all know how much we wanted to win. The attendance was amazing, the atmosphere was remarkable. What we lacked was a better score,” said Szymon Pawlowski, the player who came the closest to scoring in the Sunday clash, having hit the crossbar in the first half.
