In the most recent clash with Gornik Zabrze, Kostevych scored his first goal for Lech Poznan. The left-back's impressive performance made him one of the best players on the pitch that night, according to a number of experts. “I played a good game and now my goal is to perform even better in the upcoming league clash. I train to progress and improve," said Kostevych.
The Ukrainian footballer joined Lech Poznan in January 2017 from Karpat Lviv. So far, Kostevych has appeared on the pitch in 66 matches (52 league games, 10 international clashes, and 4 Polish Cup matches). His other statistics include 6 assists and 1 goal – scored very recently against Gornik. In Zabrze, Kostevych was one of the most active players on the pitch.
“I don’t want to call the recent match my best one so far. I simply played well and my goal is to perform even better in the upcoming match. I train to progress and improve,” explained the Ukrainian.
During this season, Lech Poznan has been playing either with three or with four defenders. The formation chosen by the coach has a big impact on Kostevych’s role on the pitch. “For me personally, it doesn’t make a big difference whether I am positioned higher up the pitch or in the defense. Of course, the first position gives me less defensive responsibilities because I another player has my back. Therefore, I can be more active in the opponent’s box,” explained Kostevych.
Back in Ukraine, the footballer used to play as a midfielder. Here in Lech, he has more defensive responsibilities and yet he managed to get more assists whilst playing for the Polish club than during his three-and-a-half year stay at Karpat Lviv. “It’s the fans and the coaching staff that can truly judge whether I have become a more versatile footballer since joining Lech. I simply do what’s asked of me,” added Kostevych.
